Homeland Security?

If theres one thing I cant stand about (most) people, it is there incessant greed of others' personal business. AMERICA is a perfect example. How To: Get Terrorized. Why is the "problem" so obscene here at home? Why are we constantly, as a nation, throwing ourselves into the grabby clutches of an undermining country? Is this so rewarding? Do we genuinly feel forcing the American way (democracy and God) onto others will help their crisis? Or is this some self-indulged cry for "Look whose the CAPTAIN SAVIOR" now? Is this a huge show of conceit and power, or an honest nudge toward a brighter future? I say, STOP!! I say, there are the SAME problems here at HOME. Poverty, terrorism, hatred, prejudice, homelessness, unemployment - these same "worldly" problems are taking reign right here on the streets of America. I mean, isnt that what real Homeland Security is all about? Why spend billions and raise taxes to wage "help" on countries that have been the same way for centuries, are we willing to spend centuries more, and thousands of our neighbors lives on a lost cause? There are men and women, AMERICAN men and women overseas dying for an ineffectual cause. Does their work and honor die in vain? NO! I say, come home!! Come home and help win the battle that has been being fought on the streets of our Home country since the birth. There are people, good people, who are trying everyday to lessen the violence overseas and teach the civilians modern ways of healthy living. But at what costs? When will these countries "get it"? 10 more years of trying to "save the world"? 20 years?? Will we forever be forcing our point of view on countries who take us and our actions with a grain of salt?

We need men, women, wives, husbands and children HOME. There's war they can fight in their own front yards.

God Bless America, our troops, and my Husband, Matthew Emswiler

GIVE ME 500 FEET!!!

Why is it that when the sun is shining and the sky is clear on our best days that SOMEONE has to intrude with their mindless, yet not to mention POINTLESS point of view? Is it jealousy? Or just down right boredom??
I mean, I get it. OK. You dont like me, for whatever reason.. But, seriously? Do you honestly feel the need to express your stupidity in public places {facebook}? Not only do most people look and laugh at how much time you actually have on your hands, but really, you make yourself look stupid. No one cares what you have to say about me, or anyone. You arent talking crap about Paris Hilton here. Youre talking about some no name girl who has like 5 friends in common with you anyway.
If you happen to be one of those who feels the need to "hate" on other people, please, do yourself a fav and shut your mouth before the spotlight is shone on your own insecurity. While your mouth is chattering, your un-confidence and jealousy shine through your teeth. Life is too short to fill your heart with hate, if you do something I disagree with BELIEVE ME ill be the last person to waste my breathe on your mistakes. As my good friend Bob Marley puts it -
"Who are you to judge the life I live?
I know I'm not perfect-and I don't live to be-but before you start pointing fingers...make sure you hands are clean!"
Goodnight & Be good to one another xx

And so it is ..

So, its been one year since my last post. Rusty much? This blog was intended for my ideas, view and (my) direction of all things clad of fashion. But, thanks to a move across the country - back to never, never (leaving) land.. & one man who should have been compromised by the long arm of the military; ended up compromising me. I met a soldier in shining.. funeral attire? Long story. Hey, I take em as they come ;) totally big J-K on that one. Anyways, we got pregnant - team players we are - and the.. shitstorm.. of being pregnant and then the aftermath that followed Londyn's delivery have left me less than indulged in entertaining my brain with anything other than family guy and laying out. So, I guess this is my first attempt of probably 3 to get back in the swing of posting. Ill get back when something interesting strikes me ;)

HOME SWEET ...

Im back in Texas. And let me just say, life has slowed down to nothing short of being an abrupt halt. I came home for two reasons:

1. to gain some financial stability (or at least insight to what that even means).

2. figure out exactly what i want, for myself.

Ill paint the picture; Ideally: I imagined coming home - my sisters couch - getting a job and a place of my own, & try to ween my way back into fashion school.
Superficially: Living the same, godspeed life indulged with bars, boys, crazy friends and so many blackout nights im surprised im not mentally disabled.

This is not the case, here in Houston, TX... I have my own apartment, its great. Right near Midtown, close to Downtown and arguably walking distance from the Galleria. Unfortunately, being unemployed with what seems to be a stagnant economy has me digging a hole of mental anxiety larger than i imagined it would be the day i unpacked my life into my sisters living room. What better way to drown the depression of being a broke fashion school drop out?
A L C O H O L ..right..?
Apparently, the world didn't stop spinning when I left for Chicago, well, not in Houston anyway.. All of my friends have jobs now, like serious jobs, not bed cleaning at Darque Tan anymore. And, houses/apartments which = bills. My social life has been equipped with a sinister ABS break system that has no inclination of letting go. I mean, after harassing (or secretly volunteering some one) to drive & then figuring out where were going& who actually has money, i can sometimes (50/50) get a few victims to come with. But it deff isnt as easy as grabbing some over stressed-in need of a drink stat.- college student & throwing them in a cab like it was in Chicago. Not to mention the bar scene here is less than comparible to Chi's, so the urge to go out is almost non existant.. More than not having a job and a prohibition-style social life, I miss fashion! Fashion class, fashion projects, the "almost ahead of its time, too good to be true" Chicago fashion. Dont get me wrong, Houston has a lot to offer, equally a lot to avoid, but It really is a great city. The Rodeo is this month & being the ex-fashionista I am, I had to eye rape every outfit I saw as i stumbled from beer tent to beer tent this past weekend at the Cook-Off. Im not going to rag on my own city, but just know, if you ever plan on moving from Chicago to Houston, or vice verse.. Go shopping.
With the obnoxious heat wave weather, the "so chill its almost like youre constantly stoned" atmosphere, and the conservationist mindset its almost impossible to dress to impress. My suburbia sheltered friends frowned upon my city-clad attire as if I had gone shopping on drugs in the dark. Please. Jeans, cute top, pumps, repeat. Thats the "fashion" of Houston nightlife. Although, in Chicago I feel like im competing on a runway every time I leave my apartment, I would rather be the center of fashion clad attention then be wearing an outfit that looks exactly the same as the less hott girl at the bar.
A 180 degree life changing turn, but at least im back to my (questionable) roots. Im applying to the Art Institute of Houston for the fall semester, with that and my constant stalking of the craigslist employment section, hopefully Ill gain some sense of meaningfulness from this ridiculous escapade back to Texas. They say dont regret anything, because at some point its what you wanted.. Even though it may seem like a huge mistake, somewhere in it there is truth and a genuine wanting for things to be the way they are. If it means movie nights monday-thursday & living the rest of my life in denim skirts, jeans & flip flops, i guess ill just have to get comfortable.. And make myself at HOME.

If you cant beat em.. Join em ;)

What Women Want?

This blog is supposed/was supposed to be my personal opinions/life experiences on fashion, and the events that make up/degrade my life. Today, I’m feeling a little less selfish. I want to take some time away from the sidelines of the fashion industry and jump into this game called RELATIONSHIPS. I have more than a few cents on the subject. Labels aside; “dating”, “hookup”[insert: KILL ME] “gf/bf”.. Whatev the case may be.. Why is it that men/women are somewhat of the same species yet, completely and utterly do not understand one another at all? They say women are emotion driven, and men think logically. Well, what if the logical resolution to the problem IS emotion. Obviously, its emotion that is stemming this “logical” decree, isn’t it? Your decisions come from how you FEEL. Im just venting. Im analytical. If there is a conflict, one: I must have closure. Two: I must have answers, to every inquiry. Now. – maybe that part is just me. But I know most if this is exactly how every other girl feels. How many ENDless conversations have I endured with my girlfriends who just can’t escape the downward spiral…straight to his voicemail, or deter herself from random apartment drive by’s armed with the sole weapon/protection of a few (girl)friends and her mom on speed dial? Or how about the ever classic “his phone must have died..” It’s tough to witness the bff recluse inside her 1 bedroom with only the company of ben and jerry simply because her EMOTIONS are getting the best of her. Furthermore, it’s agonizing if you’re the one raping the pint of Half Baked and Cookie Dough because the only thing you want to do is eat, cry and stalk. Men want their cake, they want to eat it, and they want to spread it all over every hott , ill moraled woman in the city and eat it off them as well. Being “the man” in the relationship has its meaning, but it also has its boundaries. Yes, you may wear the pants, and yes, you may also pick them out. But I wear the skirt, and there’s a handbook on that too. Women need guys to be that “fatherly figure”. That security, that confidant, someone they can shop with, vent to, and gossip around when the screechy/overly dramatic/bias input of the gf’s is too overbearing. NOT someone who “calls the shots”. You have a penis, that doesn’t make you God. Yeah I get it. Guy’s night. Ok. And yes, im drunk, and probably redialing you a little more than is “sane”, but if the “off” button on your cell phone is some kind of medication to this situation, you are NOT a man. True, my emotional speech, and the 5th of soco I downed in the last few hours may be a little intruding on your voicemail, I still deserve the same amount of respect as if we’re sober face to face. And ok, maybe you have some other issues going on that demand your focus/(a.d.d. type of)attention and you just can’t be around for awhile. Whats the elucidation? Be aggressive, hostile, and BITCHy. Then she’ll totally get the point. Right? Men just don’t want to deal. They’re logical conclusion is to just STOP IT. TURN IT OFF. MAKE IT DISAPPEAR. You’re fucking genius guys. Because by doing that you won’t make an emotionally driven, excessively sensitive individual like a woman um I don’t know, PSYCHOTIC. The answer? COMMUNICATION. Converse your emotions. The #1 reason for divorce [unsurprisingly 50% in America] is lack of communication. If you are 100% positive that women rely too dependently on their feelings, then WHY would you try to negatively arouse them??? Next time there is something on that manly, bruiting chest of yours, Say It. The logical action would be to explain what’s really going on. She’ll get it, and it rescues you from the gaping black whole of bottomless arguments she’ll gladly seat you shotgun for. If the problem (girlfriend) persists, even after you’ve run out of different ways of explaining the same reason that things just aren’t “going to go her way right now”; then, in this case, you might actually have a legit crazy bitch on your hands. Run. And good luck. As for the rest of us, if a man isn’t willing to show you respect, and be genuine, he is as much of a man as he is worth your time. So before resending that text a third time, and completing all 10 slots of your outgoing call log (and his incoming) with identical numbers. Breathe. Just think, if he isn’t giving you the time of day/night (insert: RESPECT) to tell you what’s up, then why are you giving his voicemail/inbox/amusement of his friends the pleasure of making you the “that girl” joke of the moment? And guys, get over yourselves.

A GIRL SHOULD BE TWO THINGS. . .

FASHION WEEK IS HERE!!!

And let me just say, Buh-Bye, to the fall seasons' plague of hipster-esque plaids, matchstick jeans, and neon infused high-tops... The indecisive weather and itch of my north face has me fashionably depressed. Im already skewing the pages of my vogue's trying to find my fashion niche in this springs' line-up. Spring '09 RTW comes complete with flowy silhouettes drawn together with waist belts and military style jackets. Having child bearing hips and man-ish shoulders, I CANT WAIT for spring! Louis Vuitton is reminiscent of Chanel's early 1900's introduction of "the suit"; having most models draped in billowy skirts topped with cropped jackets, adorned with shoulder pads as obnoxious as my mom's business suits in the 80's. Nothing screams confidence and empowerment to the women of today as dressing like a man.. But all in all, im uber stoked for the upcoming seasons' attire. They say black is the new white this spring, and unlike the ultra fem florals and pastels of last year, '09 brings a much darker tone to its lines. Lots of dark, bold, solid fabrics; which is great because ive totally drunken my body into a stereotypical college freshman clone. Unfortunately, its sophomore year and the extra pounds have taken permanent residence.. -Back to fashion: silhouettes are avant garde, fits are loose, taken in at the waist to accentuate, or imply, a perfect hourglass fig. Hopefully you have legs for days, because the lengths are extra short, and always remember: Stilettos or Die.

Ehh Hem..

Hi. My name is Meghan, with an H. Pronounced M-EGG-AN. Not MAY-GEN. Please, do not misspell/mispronounce my name. Im here because I love to write, write about myself, and express my ever-loving desire for fashion. Im studying Fashion Marketing at Columbia in Chicago, and living with my bi-polar, musical theater obsessed roommate in Wrigleyville, all while going day-to-day with out suicide attempts/nervous-break downs/murder. I make it work. Ill be on as much as time/internet accessibility allows; updating my fan base of zero on the trials/tribulations/opinions(judgments)/fashion faux pas that we/I as an urban american face, and hopefully, overcome. Until next time, Ciao - dont you just love the French.
