HOME SWEET ...

Im back in Texas. And let me just say, life has slowed down to nothing short of being an abrupt halt. I came home for two reasons:

1. to gain some financial stability (or at least insight to what that even means).

2. figure out exactly what i want, for myself.

Ill paint the picture; Ideally: I imagined coming home - my sisters couch - getting a job and a place of my own, & try to ween my way back into fashion school.
Superficially: Living the same, godspeed life indulged with bars, boys, crazy friends and so many blackout nights im surprised im not mentally disabled.

This is not the case, here in Houston, TX... I have my own apartment, its great. Right near Midtown, close to Downtown and arguably walking distance from the Galleria. Unfortunately, being unemployed with what seems to be a stagnant economy has me digging a hole of mental anxiety larger than i imagined it would be the day i unpacked my life into my sisters living room. What better way to drown the depression of being a broke fashion school drop out?
A L C O H O L ..right..?
Apparently, the world didn't stop spinning when I left for Chicago, well, not in Houston anyway.. All of my friends have jobs now, like serious jobs, not bed cleaning at Darque Tan anymore. And, houses/apartments which = bills. My social life has been equipped with a sinister ABS break system that has no inclination of letting go. I mean, after harassing (or secretly volunteering some one) to drive & then figuring out where were going& who actually has money, i can sometimes (50/50) get a few victims to come with. But it deff isnt as easy as grabbing some over stressed-in need of a drink stat.- college student & throwing them in a cab like it was in Chicago. Not to mention the bar scene here is less than comparible to Chi's, so the urge to go out is almost non existant.. More than not having a job and a prohibition-style social life, I miss fashion! Fashion class, fashion projects, the "almost ahead of its time, too good to be true" Chicago fashion. Dont get me wrong, Houston has a lot to offer, equally a lot to avoid, but It really is a great city. The Rodeo is this month & being the ex-fashionista I am, I had to eye rape every outfit I saw as i stumbled from beer tent to beer tent this past weekend at the Cook-Off. Im not going to rag on my own city, but just know, if you ever plan on moving from Chicago to Houston, or vice verse.. Go shopping.
With the obnoxious heat wave weather, the "so chill its almost like youre constantly stoned" atmosphere, and the conservationist mindset its almost impossible to dress to impress. My suburbia sheltered friends frowned upon my city-clad attire as if I had gone shopping on drugs in the dark. Please. Jeans, cute top, pumps, repeat. Thats the "fashion" of Houston nightlife. Although, in Chicago I feel like im competing on a runway every time I leave my apartment, I would rather be the center of fashion clad attention then be wearing an outfit that looks exactly the same as the less hott girl at the bar.
A 180 degree life changing turn, but at least im back to my (questionable) roots. Im applying to the Art Institute of Houston for the fall semester, with that and my constant stalking of the craigslist employment section, hopefully Ill gain some sense of meaningfulness from this ridiculous escapade back to Texas. They say dont regret anything, because at some point its what you wanted.. Even though it may seem like a huge mistake, somewhere in it there is truth and a genuine wanting for things to be the way they are. If it means movie nights monday-thursday & living the rest of my life in denim skirts, jeans & flip flops, i guess ill just have to get comfortable.. And make myself at HOME.

If you cant beat em.. Join em ;)
